The vision of modern India
Indian at the time of independence in 1947 was a bankrupt country, looted & destroyed for centuries by
the invaders - Britishers and the Moguls, who had systematically destroyed the talent , morale and productive
capability of the nation.

The government treasury was empty , the society was agrarian, no private equity to invest in development of infrastructure,
no democratic institutions to sustain the democracy.
But fortunately the country had a team of truly patriotic leaders headed by the learned Pundit Nehru who along with others
had spent 7+ years in British prison during freedom struggle.
Many of these highly educated leaders had sacrificed their career, wealth and family life to serve the country.
You can challenge their policies but not their patriotism & honesty of purpose .

India had to rise like a phoenix from the ashes in order to survive and prosper.

At global level India 🇮🇳 had a choice to become a stooge of one of the global powers - USA or USSR and reap some quick benefits
or identify itself as a non-aligned nation.
The challenge was enormous but the determination of the nation was unflinching.
India needed a visionary who could build the base for industrial development , generate indigenous capability by educating and training
her citizen , bring India to self sufficiency in food .

Nehru laid and implemented that vision very intelligently.
He established the democratic institutions starting with the Election commission- the fulcrum of democratic process .
He established educational institutions like IIT and AIIMS and IIMs to train and create world class engineers , doctors and managers
to manage industries , hospitals and organizations.
Nehru established key industrial organizations like Hindustan Steel - to produce steel which is backbone for creating infrastructure;
Heavy Engineering Corporation to produce mechanical equipments ; BHEL to produce electrical equipment , turbines and generators to
build power plants.
Nehru also established BARC for atomic and nuclear research, ISRO for space research .
He also established Indian Standard Institute to bring standards in products and services , Planning Commission to generate a 5 year plan
for futuristic growth.

The green revolution to boost agricultural production was also started during Nehru’s administration.
If you look at the wide spectrum of key growth areas it is simply amazing.
These laid the foundation of a modern , industrial India based on scientific endeavors,
agricultural excellence & democratic processes.
Before Nehru died all the above institutions and systems were running and producing human talent , goods and services and India had
established itself as a non- aligned independent Republic.
And India had truly risen like a Phoenix from the ashes.
No political leader after Nehru had created such a national vision with such wide ranging impact.
Some of his policies may be challenged but his vision to build the nation was unique.
And india stands proudly today as a global economic, nuclear, space and industrial power on the foundation laid by her first
Prime Minister Pundit Nehru.
